Faulty TV at 2 years - Currys charge to asses?!

i had similar at beginning of year with currys, my panasonic tv was just out of warranty by about 3 weeks and only just over a year old, contacted currys customer service and they told me its out of warranty and would be £90 for to look at it and any repairs on top of that.
I took it to local engineer who charged £20 and diagnosed the backlight had gone and he reckoned it would be very expensive to repair and he could not even source the part.
I then found through the panasonic forums their local service agents closest to me and asked for an estimate quoting part/model numbers etc, again it was going to be expensive, over £400 !
Subsequently i googled e.u. consumer laws and it basically states good sold within e.u. a minimum 2 year warranty applies, i queried this with currys asking them to apply this and lo and behold it was collected, repaired and returned f.o.c.

FYI - there is no minimum two year warranty, it's superseded by SoGA now CRA.

That said, once you get a report that says it's not misuse (it should really say it's an inherent fault), Currys will act under the respective act, which is where indie63's experience stems from.

If you care that much, get a report to say it's inherent or pay the £90 and if you're confident it is a manufacturing fault, it will be refunded.
