Can I re-open PPI case?

Hello everyone,
Looking for some advice. I put a PPI claim into RBS in 2012 on the basis that I didn't think I'd get the visa without it and I would have full pay if off work sick so would never have needed it. I was rejected because it was an online application in July 2007 and I had ticked the box and onus was on me. Honestly not sure if I ticked or not. Seen a few things online recently and thinking on asking them to look at this again. Can I do this? I have read the box could have been pre-ticked at this point? Also thinking on arguing that they didn't advise third party PPI policies were available or cheaper elsewhere? Everything was online so I definitely wasn't aware of this. At the time I thought it was something you had to take out. Is it worthwhile trying again?
Appreciate your help!!

If the bank gave you the option to go to the FOS with the rejection letter, as 6 months have passed they will not look at the claim again and FOS won't unless you have a very good reason for not taking it to FOS when you were given the chance.
Was this a loan or Credit card?.
Providers don't have to tell you that you can get PPI elsewhere.
The reasons for mis sell would be if you had no need of the PPI, you had life insurance, savings, worked less than 16 hours a week so the unemployment benefit on the PPI would not pay out or you had other means to repay the loan/ Card back in any event.0 -
Ok thanks for the info. It was a credit card. Looks like I've missed my chance to go to FOS on this one.
I actually applied for a different card roundabout the same time in 2012 which also got rejected for exact same reasons. The other week I got a refund cheque of £600 out of the blue with very little explanation why, so got me thinking about the other one again!! You never know it will maybe get reviewed too without my intervention!
Thanks again.0 -

If the response that the OP took the card out online is correct then the above would not make the product missold. It would make it misbought. If the OP has bought something they don't need with no involvement from anyone else, that is not the fault of the lender.0
