Eggshell or satin wood paint

Going to use either egg shell or satin wood to paint door frames and skirting boards

Whats best and why please?

  • In my experience, you won't notice too much of a difference between the two when using the paint on skirting and frames due to the areas not being too large. (doors are slightly different because of the large expanse of painted surfaces).

Satinwood is slightly glossier than eggshell so it will really come down to personal preference as to which one you use.
What are you using for painting the doors themselves?
If you are using a gloss finish, using a flat finish such as eggshell on the frames may look a bit strange due to the proximity of the 2 different finishes.

Do you have young children? if the answer is yes dont paint in either in my experience *unless you are painting freshly primed/undercoated wood*

There isn't a massive difference in looks.

I have always used satinwood but decided on eggshell in this house. Never again. Unless you relly enjoy painting your woodwork repeatedly.

It picks up dirt far easier than satinwood, marks more easily and is harder to clean. for no real benefit to speak of.

I've not used anything but satin for ages now, in prefernce to gloss.

My Dad liked eggshell in 'nice' areas, but it isnt too tough.

Also when you do go for satin, check if the one you get is water based, as its obviously easier to clean up after.

    Screwfix have several choices
