Ermmmm.... Gatwick is a long way from the congestion charge and central London - about 35-40 miles, it's just a few minutes off the M23, just north of Crawley. Not saying that you should or shouldn't give you Dad a lift, it was just in case you though you were going to the wrong airport!

Where abouts near Pompey are you because you can get the Southern service from somewhere like Fratton. No change quicker and cheaper

    CurlyWurlyGirly..

First of all you shouldnt do it if you dont want to, dont let anyone guilt trip you into this!
Second of all, sorry but i have to agree that there is no congestion charge to pay..
Thirdly is he offering to pay the petrol cost?

What about seeing if he will take the coach there but you go and pick him up?
  • OK, think I was just being hopeful with congestion charge to make my case AGAINST driving....

    My dad's in his 50's.....

I'm in Gosport.....have checked with RAC, and apparantly Gatwick counts as West Sussex.....I've driven to Sussex before. I have sat nav, but will be completly honest and say that the idea of driving there scares the bejesus out of me (which is why I can't work out why I would have agreed - although it may have been said in passing)....
    Is it payday yet?

    If you are in Gosport...

Your best bet is Fareham to Gatwick. Direct train. Its the London Victoria train should take about 1.50 mins no change.

    What sorta times?

It'll be about 20 quid single if i remember correctly.

  • That sounds fab amyb - would need to leave at about 9am to get there for about 11am.....

    Also, which train company?

    Time for a reality check...

Your Dad is going on holiday: not disaster relief in Afghanistan. He really does not need "a friendly face" to welcome him back: if going there is so stressful, he doesn't need to do it.

Despite the recent accident, travelling by coach is a good deal safer than by car. But direct train is the best option of all.
  • His ETA is 10.15am 25th sept....
