Nice places to live in Leeds

I'm a first time buyer looking to buy a house in Leeds. I'm starting to realise that I'm probably not going to be able to afford a house in the areas that I would like to live in such as Roundhay, Moortown, horsforth. Does anyone one know any areas in leeds which are nice but not too expensive? Thanks

Leeds is quite a nice place, and with easy access to countryside.
You could flip the question around and check out which areas to avoid.
If you move away from the town, then you should also factor in your transport costs.0 -
Do you want new build or an existing house?
There are many nice places, and a lot of the towns around Leeds have both good and bad areas. It all depends how close you want to be to the centre, what your transport needs are etc. I have lived in leeds for 6 years now0 -
Thanks everyone. My partner works in the city centre and doesn't drive so we couldn't be too far away from the centre. I work in South Leeds but drive so don't really mind commuting a longer distance. I'd prefer an existing house rather than a new build.0

We're in a similar position - living in North Leeds and would ideally like to stay in the Roundhay area but it's so expensive and properties move really quickly. We're in the process of buying in Temple Newsam now, which is equally lovely but without the price inflation which is added by the trendy bars and restaurants of places like Oakwood and Chapel Allerton.
It depends on your budget and the type of house you're looking for really, but other areas worth considering may be:
- Garforth
- Halton
- Colton
- Cross Gates
- Scholes
- Thorner
- Fearnville (technically Gipton so a lot cheaper than Oakwood / Roundhay, but not far from the amenities and by no means as 'rough' as the rest of Gipton)
- Rothwell
- Otley (a slightly longer commute but there is a direct bus to the city centre, x84 I believe)
- Some parts of Alwoodley are cheaper, as are parts of Meanwood
- Whinmoor0 -
What's your budget and what do you need /want?
Ie bedrooms/garden etc...0 -
I Would ideally like a garden and 2-3 bedrooms. Preferably semi detached but end terrace would also be fine. Our budget is 130k.0

My cousin moved out of Bramley after being burgled 10 times in 10 years. Bramley has had a mention on TV for having the highest burglary rate in the country.0

What about Woodlesford? Not too bad a commute for you and train to city centre for your partner.0
