Old TSB Trustcard

Hi,

I had a TSB Trustcard credit card and was told I could not have the card without agreeing to the monthly payment protection. The account was taken out in 1988 and was closed in 1999. I found myself out of work when the company I was working for went into liquidation. I was on a labour only subcontract arrangement at the time. When I tried to claim to cover the repayments, I was told that as I was self-employed I could not claim as the policy did not cover self-employed people.

I haven't made a claim as I did not have the account number, something that I have recently found. Is it worth chasing or am I out of time?

You can ask them but you wouldnt hold out for much chance as statements from that period are unlikely to still exist.

Account was closed 27 years ago. Even with the account number, records are unlikely to exist.

My OH had same card taken out in branch in 1998. They had all the information for his. We did have old statements showing payments coming out of our current account with them. So its worth a go.

Wrong decade. Plus, the account was closed by 1999. Most card providers run 6-10 rolling years of statements. Maybe longer when the account is still open.

Yes, it is worth asking but the odds are low that records exist.

What I meant was if they had records for 1998 and the ops card was still going then, then maybe there may be some records. Was not talking about a decade before! Surely its worth a stamp! Rather than put people off of trying I was trying to encourage them. I hate posting on here because I know I will get some sarcastic comment off of you moneyineptitude. You did same to another comment I made.
I thought this was supposed to be a friendly forum? That's why I just normally keep myself to myself. I and other family members have had recent wins from lloyds for old accounts.
  • Thanks for the comments.
I have been sitting on this for a long while, not knowing if I could claim, but without an account number I had no chance. Now I have found the account number then at least the odds have been raised very slightly.

TBO, I don't think I stand any chance of being successful, which is why I have not tried before now. But seeing as I don't think I will gain anything. it's still worth a try.

    Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

    Indeed.

Expect nothing and you won't be disappointed.
