Do closed accounts show up on credit file?

Hi,

I have a closed account which has a status of "satisfied", does this show up when a credit check is made? It was defaulted on 01/02/2011.

Yes my understanding is a default stays on file for 6 years ...should come off file around March / April 2017

I'm not sure if it drops off after 6 years of the account being closed as opposed to 6 years from the default. If the account was active that would be the case but a niggle in me says that the closed account stays stagnant for 6 years from closure? That means the history showing on closure (which could include a default) is visible? Lenders are likely to look at this too if it shows as 'satisfied' rather than 'settled'.

I'd imagine the default will disappear from the credit file(s) in February/March 2017 and then the actual 'closed' account will disappear come 2022.

The default will not be reported beyond March 2017 I'd imagine.
