You have proof of this difficulty?

    What proof do you expect?
Yes, you can do chargeback, but if the seller has his proof, chargeback will be reversed. And the customer would have no proofs in this case.

It is actually for the CC to prove that a cardholder authorised a particular transaction rather than for the cardholder to prove he didn't. I can see that if the records show the cardholder consented, it could be tricky.

I would be interested if anyone here has actually disputed (successfully or otherwise) a DCC transaction.

All we need is for some ruling that this practice is unfair (perhaps via EU regs) and a whole new industry will be born just as PPI is fizzling out.

Eighteen months ago, I found Firefly Car Hire had done a DCC on the bill after I had left their office. Despite having no documentary evidence (the papers were probably left in the car), Nationwide stumped up the difference when I made a complaint. Top marks to them.

I've heard of a few people successfully getting a chargeback for DCC. There's even a specific chargeback code, 76. See http://chargebacktech.eu/knowledge-base/visa-chargeback-reason-code-76/

I disputed one several years ago with Nationwide. I was reimbursed the difference but think this was Nationwide fixing things themselves rather than dealing with the supplier.

I'm just about to start another one with Halifax from a purchase on Sunday where I wasn't offered the choice of currency.

I have disputed all 3 transactions, and will continue to do so, until it is addressed. (it appears the only way to get the banks to take note. Although its only about 3% lost, its the principle and the time it takes them to deal with the chargeback may make them sort it)

No proof. I should have said "I imagine it's difficult etc..."

It's good to see people reporting successful chargebacks, and that Nationwide seem to do very well with disputed DCC.

Therefore just pure speculation on your part.

Whenever I've requested a chargeback (for other reasons) my card issuers have always been helpful.

That has been my experience too - on the rare occasions I've personally contacted a CC and historically as a merchant (where they always seeemed to "side" with the cardholder).
