TSB contactles card not working

I've just opened a TSB Classic Plus Account, went to use my contactless debit card to get my 5% cashback but the card didn't work.
Does it take a bit of time before the card is active or do you have to use it the normal way 1st before the contactless method works?

Did you use a chip and pin transaction before you tried the contactless payment?0

The following was taken from TSB web site
How do I get contactless?
We include contactless technology on most of our Debit Cards - if your card has the contactless symbol, it has contactless built in. If you don't already have a contactless card but would like one, just visit your nearest branch who'll be able to help you. Please be aware that contactless cards are not available to everyone (contactless eligibility is subject to status).
Please note: if you have a brand new or replacement contactless card, you'll need to use your card with your PIN before the contactless function will work. This can either be an ATM transaction or purchasing an item in store. This is a security feature to make sure that no-one else has got hold of your card.0 -
Thanks both,
I couldn't do a normal chip and pin transaction, I haven't memorised the PIN yet0 -
I had to take my card to an ATM and unlock the card. I also changed the PIN whilst I was there. It now works contactless.Mortgage start September 2015 £90000 MFiT #060

Why don't you just change your PIN at an ATM machine to one you can remember. I always do this with a new credit card/debit card.
Also don't forget that the £5 cashback, if you have spent £100 via the 'contactless' method, won't be credited to your account until about the 18th of the month. I also get an email from TSB when the £5 has been paid in.0 -

Because I was in town at the time and didn't know the PIN
Next time I go in I will know the PIN and then change it to a more memorable one.
On a side note, can you change the PIN at other banks terminals?
We only have Lloyds in our town.0 -
You can change the PIN at literally all ATMs, and certainly at a Lloyds one.0

You can change the PIN at any ATM which offers PIN Services, which most of them do.
You'll also be asked to use chip & pin occasionally when trying to make a contactless payment. It is possible to minimise these requests, by making a chip & pin cash withdrawal or even requesting a balance.0
