Renting up North - Your experiences?

Hi.

I'm looking to rent privately, but am having issues with failing the tenant credit checks (see previous thread here).

I'm thinking of moving up North, where the prices are slightly cheaper and the rules for renting seem somewhat more lax (ie housing benefit are welcome on some properties).

I'm also self-employed, and so sometimes will resort to claiming HB to see my through the dry spells.

Just really looking for experiences in people who choose to move up North, and any difference you've noticed between North/South re renting?

Where up north? The north covers a huge geographic area and millions of households.

The north is great ..just don't mistake mushy peas on chips for guacamole :rotfl:

Editted to add ..or expect decent public transport.
Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...

Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.

Just because landlords don't choose to run letting businesses in the South doesn't mean that they are any less well educated about how to let property. I think you are confusing lower prices with lower standards of knowledge and education.

I live in Yorkshire and prices may be cheaper in some areas, West Yorkshire more expensive than East Yorkshire, credit checks are done, I would expect housing benefit to be considered but usually not in the best areas.
Check on right move for some ideas
