IP and Copyright for software

Hi All,

Does anyone know a free site to get simple information on how i go about copyrighting my software?

I haven't the foggiest about how i do so and it looks like i may be able to sell off one of my programs to a nice company

The simpliest way is to simply place:

1. The Program
2. The Source Code
3. Paper Design

into an envelope and send it to yourself recorded delivery & DO NOT open the received mail.

This is a short term, but efficient way in proving date etc of ownership.

But is it legally binding in any way?

It's very important as it proves "When" your idea was bourne. You can do the same but ask for a solicitor to hold the records, but there will be a fee for this. This option would be more preferable if it is your intention to make money from your software.

I automatically store work done for clients even though I always hand over copyright & ownership of such works.
