AMEX cashback or rewards

Hi all,

I've had the AMEX Platinum Cashback credit card (the one with the fee, not the, "Everyday" version) for a few years. I spend £12,000 - £14,000 per year on it and make the most of the cashback.

I'm wondering if it's worth switching to the Green or Gold charge cards. Both offer Membership Rewards. I do not travel often / rarely fly (one trip every two years at a push) and would end up exchanging my Membership Rewards points for some other deal. Does anybody have experience of doing this? Can points be exchanged for cash or statement credit? I would be replacing my cashback card with the new card and would therefore need to cover the £60 / £140 fees (year two) with whatever benefit I get.

I think I already have my answer, that I'm best as I am or only marginally better with the Membership Rewards cards. Any advice is welcome - thanks!

Best thing to do is go on their website where you can compare cards. It really depends on your personal circumstance/preferences.

I used to fly a lot and had the platinum charge card. Free unlimited lounge access, travel insurance and concierge justified the fee.

That's no longer the case so i switched to the gold charge card which now better suits my requirements.

As already suggested it's down to your own preferences and preferred rewards.

If the Gold card (for example) might entice you to fly more often, then it's probably worth it as you get more value out of your points in this way. Alternatively, you will only get half the value of your points if converting them to say Amazon vouchers - 1 point = 0.5p in this way.
