car insurance for university student

My son is off to uni at the end of the month, we want car insurance that will enable him to be added for the occasional w/e & in the holidays, the rest of the time I will be the main driver. Haven't found anyone that does this specific requirement.

Norwich Union do a pay as you drive, but if I do it in my name additional drivers have to be >24, if I do in his with me added to the policy its still expensive

Anyone doing this already that could suggest a company I can try?

I don't think anyone will just insure him for just holidays.

I think the cheapest way will be to insure him as a name driver on your policy. Named drivers are assumed to only drive the car occasionally.
Not the Norwich Union pay as you drive as this will include your driving too.

Many insurers ask for your annual milage and your premium is set accordingly.
