Will I get a P60?

Hi there, can anyone help me with a few questions on tax:
I was made redundant from my job in August '15 and started a JSA claim from then through til I got a new job in March '16. I got my P45 from the job centre at that point but when I mentioned it to HR at my new job they said it's too close to the end of the tax year so the tax office will deal with tax codes etc so payroll don't actually need it but will keep it on file if I hand it in.
Having been only employed for a small chunk of 2015/16 and then on JSA for the rest of it, I may well have paid too much tax over the year but as far as I know I won't be able to find this out unless I get a P60. However it's also my understanding that, as I was employed before April 5th, I won't get a P60 from the Job Centre. But on the other hand, even though I was employed on April 5th by my new employer, the fact that I won't get a wage slip from them until the end of April, they won't give me a P60 either - so where do I get one from? Or is there an alternative to easily find out my total earnings & tax paid for 15/16 to see if I've overpaid?

You get a p60 from whoever you are working for at the end of the tax year... so you should get one
between now and the end of May 16. They are bound by law to supply you with one.
All you employment details will be gathered together at HMRC so I would wait till the end of April and then ring the HMRC and they will tell you if you are due a refund of overpaid tax for 15/16
(unless you know how much you earned and tax paid last year.)
You shoudl try in the future to keep and file this sort of thng.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

the job centre P45 ought to show your total 'earnings' to date and the tax paid : what does it show?0 -
Just to jump on the back of this
My wife does not work, she receives some rental income (which she does a tax return for) and carers allowance, which is a taxable benefit, but no tax it deducted. Will she receive a P60 from the carers allowance people? We'll need one, or something similar, to fill out her tax return.
How do they know she doesn't have another paye job that would supply her one?

a P60 is a return produced by an employer to an employee who is working at the tax year end.
If you are not employed at tax year end you don't get a P60.
sorry don't know whether you get an annual statement of carers allowance but surely you know how much you get0 -

A P60 is issued....
"By 31 May each year, employers must give a form P60 to each employee working for them at 5 April, and for whom they have completed a P11 working sheet or FPS."

In your case no P11 or FPS would have been done as no payments were made.
The normal practise when unemployment ends is for the Jobcentre to pay any tax rebate due if they are able to, as you have not mentioned this I assume they did not. This would indicate that they did not have your full tax details so any P45 they issued would only be for unemployment benefit paid and would have a non-cumulative tax code.
To clarify this can you give the full P45 details?
In the end your easiest way to get your full details is to use the two P45s you have, the one from your old job and the one from the Jobcentre. From the part 1A of each you can see the pay and tax in each job/benefit and add them together. If the Jobcentre did have your full tax details then the part 1A for this will have both your benefit figure and your total benefit/old employment figure.
A P60 is not needed to get a tax refund if it is due; a lot of people end the tax year without a P60 and many get a P60 with incomplete details for one reason or another.
No idea why your P45 was not wanted best to check your first payslip to see what tax code has been used.0 -

They are fine if you have claimed JSA for some time and since the start of the current tax year, but if you have had employment in a tax year then JSA, they only reflect the JSA in the P45. Short answer is: Yes, everybody gets one from every employer during the year.
Truth us: Many smaller employers just don't bother, so you might have to make a note to keep an eye out for it and chase if required.0 -

Sorry but not quite as simple as this, the following is from....

To cite one specific incidence. I mean P45 handed to JSA at start of unemployment showing first JSA amount included in totals. Part April only. Employment for 6 months. Both items shown on P45 (incl tax) handed to JSA on second period of JSA commenced in October. JSA ended January. P45 only showed JSA from October to January with a normal cumulative tax code. I COULD actually cite a personal one going back to 1993, but perhaps that would be going just a tad too far.0
