Loft conversion / roof repairs in 1st floor flat

Hello! I'm in the 1st floor flat of a terrace house and have share of the freehold. I don't think we own the loft space or roof etc however I was thinking of getting a loft conversion. If we don't own the roof space etc is it really complicated and expensive to do it - so not worth it?
Also, the roof does really need replacing, if we get this done this year and a loft conversion in the next few years is that a real waste of money? Thank you!

If you have a share of the freehold you would technically have to buy the neighbours share of the loft. Not that complicated and depending on where you live will determine its value.
I would do the re-roof and loft conversion at the same time. If you cant afford the loft conversion just yet it is not the end of the world to do it after the re-roof just more fiddly and a bit more expensive. If you are thinking of putting a big dormer on the back that would be a terrible waste of money after a re-roof.0
