Can Housing Association Evict Me for continually complaining?

They sent someone out and they said the meter was turning more than it should, internally it was set at 0.1 rather than 0 so was racking up units when it shouldn't. Yes the meter was super defective last winter i went without heating and hot water a lot but it seems to be fixed somewhat now or shall i say its not as bad as it was. I really don't know much about a HIU to be honest its really new to me and I don't understand how the energy source (which they say is heat) is measured in kwh that shows up on my unit. For example it uses about 5kwh for a shower, however that is measured.
If you want to stay in this property I would install an electric shower. It wouldn't cost much and all you require is electricity to run the shower. You won't need to rely on the heating system to work to get a shower.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

If the utility bill is paid to the HA then I believe there is a good possibility they will eventually evict you for non-payment.
So if you really, really couldn't find somewhere else to live you should probably start paying the bill under protest whilst still taking your case to the ombudsmen. Also contact your local councillors and see if they might help.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
thank you for that explanation that's really helpful I couldn't really understand from Google. I would much prefer to pay electricity to Green Energy than them thieving ***** the HA. Its so over priced and u are stuck u cant move supplier. Does a plumber install this or an electrician? Will it lose any power?0

Thank you for that I will start to pay them like £5 per week while still going through the motions. They have made it so unnecessarily painful but I feel so strongly about this I really am thinking of taking them to small claims court0

A plumber who also has an electrician's certificate would install an electric shower. They can multi skill so they can install both the water and the electricity connection. Just make sure you check that they can install an electric shower before commissioning them to do the work. If the plumber themselves doesn't have the skills to install the electrical part they'll usually hire someone else to help them complete the job. It doesn't take very long to install so shouldn't cost you too much.
You can then shut the valves off on the HIU so nothing enters the metering unit and the meter won't read anything. You'll have to inform the supplier that you no longer require the service so you don't get standing charges.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

thank u that's really helpful I will look into electric shower as I'm not sure I can cope anymore with the cold showers, I was on the verge of a breakdown last night and today. I would love to turn off the hiu and tell them to stick it, its not even the money its the principle but unfortunately i am dependant on it I still need hot water supply in the kitchen to washing and cleaning etc and the radiators, I don't like electric fires they are too dry for me
nice idea though!

Thank you. I have been emailing everyone about it so its all very well documented why I wont pay it but maybe I should offer part payment?
I am on the verge of taking them and the bill to a small claims court myself as I feel so strongly that I'm not responsible for the whole bill but they insist I am
I think this sort of bill counts as variable service charge. So you would be taking them to the First Tier Tribunal of the Property Chamber.
Look this up- you would have to pay a fee (under £100) which is non-recoverable. I would advise going with the Ombudsman first.
Paying up but stating that you are contesting the charges (in writing) might be a good idea- so you are the good guy. If you ever manage to reclaim your money ask for interest to be added.0 -
Thank you so much I will take a look into that and send them a letter and email that I will start to pay but I am contending the charges with the Ombudsman. Does it matter if I part pay or pay in full? I cant afford to pay in full atm0
