Its clearly a con when a flip would cost you more than you currently pay and they charge £25 to boot.

They really need to make clear how the supposed savings are produced. Obviously its not by comparing the consumer's current tariff.

In my case if I had gone ahead it would have cost me money.
  • I've just checked my Flipper deal on the MSE Energy Club 'Find the cheapest Deal' . MSE is telling me it is the best deal.
We all need to compare our flipper deal on the MSE Energy Club 'Find the cheapest Deal' and post it here so we can all work out if Flipper is any good.

In your deliberations, bear in mind that some PCWs now include any shared cashback in the annual cost calculation, and PCWs do not show any friends and family discounts that can only be achieved if the switch is via the supplier’s own website.

Perhaps I'm missing the point here but why would you pay someone (having to supply way more personal details) when it would be quicker to join the energy club here?

There is something not quite right in the savings quote that I have just received on the Flipper website. I entered my supplier details - but not projected usage in kWhs/year as Flipper prefers the more generic 'No of Bedrooms' to assess usage - and I got a response saying that I could save £224.25 by switching.

Which would be great were it not for the fact that I am 8 months into a cheap two year fix for gas, and I transferred my electricity to a cheap supplier last Monday (with a £50 friends and family referral fee).

Thanks I'll continue doing it myself :-)
  • Discount Scheme which some people including pensioners are entitled to but not all energy suppliers provide. It takes seconds a week to do a simple comparison and CEC will partly do what Flipper does for free and they pay you for switching.
  • Changing often looks like a money saver using the Ofgem calculation but if Flipper is really advising customers to leave decent fixed rates early and paying exit fees (which they don't factor in) on the basis of this, then it's not right and certainly not worth paying £25 for the privilege.

  • Well, I have just looked at the site and if you move supplier on the basis of their forecast which is based on the scant information you give them, then you're a complete mug. I am on a ridiculously low rate for gas, having fixed over a year ago and I am on a reasonably competitive rate for electricity, not the cheapest, as I avoided those with poor customer service, having had a nightmare with Together Energy.

Flipper is forecasting a saving of £155, without knowing my consumptions or what my current tariffs are. It is just not possible to predict anything based on number of bedrooms and postcode. This is a flawed model and, in my opinion, totally misleading. I suggest other clued up MSE members try the site. I bet it NEVER shows that you are on the best deal and that there is no point changing.

I challenge the Flipper rep to show how the £155 saving in my case is calculated, with my current tariffs being Better Energy fixed to Nov 19 (2.6p & 15.0ppd) and Zebra Power fixed June 19 (12.06p and 17.14ppd) ex VAT, disregarding any exit fees.

Well, come on then, Flipper Rep! It's a challenge.
