Does anyone know how long it typically takes for a bank (Lloyds or First Direct in this instance) to accept instruction for a Direct Debit Mandate? Would/could this happen in the same day?

What do you mean by ''accept''?

Are you banking with Lloyds or FD and want to set up a payment to a 3 rd party?

Most D/D' s are set up by the companies themselves using a system called AUDDIS.
