Gardening newbie - cheap plants?

I've bought a few plants from eBay that have turned out pretty good. They were tiny when they were delivered so you could easily carry them back from work.
Are there any little nurseries near you rather than big chain garden centres? Plants are half the price at small nurseries around here.0 -
Garden centres are dear. What I've noticed is the older/bigger the plant, the dearer it is, so pick what you want and buy small plants and let them grow.
I only ever buy from garden centres in Feb/March when they are selling stuff off cheap, try looking for a local nursary.
Also look in your local markets, car boot sales, Aldi, lidl, B&M, home and bargains and the range stores.0 -
Perennials just in at my local Home Bargains. I got a big potful of helianthemum Ben Hope for £1.99.0
