Thinking about it, I may have used 1:4 cement to sand ratio few years ago. I remember checking back then, seeing suggestions that it could be 1:3 or 1:4 or more.
The area I have just repointed still has space to coat again with a new mix as I've just got started.
I'm sure that will be better match if I use 1:4 cement/sand mix.0 -
I've had the same problem when i ordered sharp sand from two different suppliers. One was grey and the other was orange. Luckily it was only for a mortar mix for slabs so it cant be seenEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. Went to B&Q, they had bag of sharp sand which was lighter colour than one I have been using, then shop assistant spotted an even lighter one, so the colour does vary.
Went to a builders merchants, their bags of sharp sand were positively grey, although bags were sitting outside in wet, but maybe that helps show true colour you will get.0
