  • How about ring up the vets in your area and enquire in case prices vary regionally?

This seems crazy prices to me I have 2 cats.

    Insurance - £10 a month (£120)
    Food -about £4-5 a week (£200- £250 a year)
    Annual Boosters - £70 - £80
Flea Treatment - £2 per cat every 3 months (Less than £20 a year)
    Worming - About £5 per cat every 3 months ( £40 a year)

    Occassional Treats etc - £50 a year

Total - £500 - £560 a year, for 2 cats (Excludes Litter, as mine do not use a litter tray)

Also estimates £40-50 in vets fees (our vet charges £20 for a consulatation) and "extras" of £200-500 a year - e.g. medicines, shampoo, replacing equipment, medical bills that insurance wouldn't cover, cost of catteries etc etc.

You can provide for a cat quite cheaply. I do not have cat insurance as I self insure. As the cat is generally an indoor cat I do not take the cat to the vet for booster injections.

So...my only ongoing expenses are cat food and cat litter. In summer I treat her for fleas as she seems to pick them up when she ventures outside with me in the summer.

I would say around £600/year for a fully insured (with good insurance cover), fully vaccinated, indoor/outdoor cat including litter would be a good estimate.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
