Its just this whole thing of letting people down I dont like. Theres certain aspects of my employers I dont like (see my post about their atttiude to people on benefits) but at least they are fair people to work for and that means a lot to me.
EDIT - does my employer have to pay SMP or the government?
Your employer pays you SMP then claims back a percentage from HMRC.0 -
.... she will kick RIGHT off with that.. I think ill be leaving after all..0

Why? If you meet the criteria it's your right to receive it. Nothing she can do about it.0 -

Doesn't mean she has to like it... There are some pretty terrible bosses about. But that does raise the question about OP's apparently genial attitude towards wanting to forgo her own rights and not put this boss out, vs. then saying boss would kick off over maternity...Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

What question do you think it raises? Its as simple as this - I quite like my employers and dont want to mess them about, as other employees have done. They will not like having to pay maternity pay. They are quite vocal about people who claim benefits - thats their opinions and Im in no position to change it
Its not that I want to forgo my rights, I dont particularly know what they are.
I came here to ask for advice which some posters have offered without trying to be judge and jury or 'raise questions' where there are no real questions to be raised.0 -
OP I understand your point about not wanting to mess anyone about but you need to do what's best for you and your baby.
SMP isn't a benefit. The employer can recover a minimum of 92% from gov so they are barely out of pocket. Some employers can claim back more depending on the size of the business (how much NIC the business pays).0 -
Thanks Darksparkle, I'll have a chat with employer tomorrow and look into SMP.0
