With the free weekend calls from NTL next month I am looking to stay with ntl and use 18866 or 1899 in the week which is the cheapest for dialling landlines? or would it be cheaper to change back to a BT landline.

You may have fallen into NTL's cleverly set trap there dbs.

AIUI, the revised prices from 1/6/05 include free local weekend calls.

There has been some discussion as to what they mean by 'local' but same STD code is probably the safest definition.

Last I heard, 1899 is cheapest for cable landline users - 3p connection and 0p/minute for UK 01/02 calls at any time via the 08081708708 access number (18866 is 2p connection and 0.5p/minute and BT is 3p/minute with a 5p minimum call charge 0600-1800 weekdays and 5.5p for up to an hour evenings and weekends).
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

If you are using 18866 and 1899 on an NTL line, going to BT would be no cheaper. From the 1st June (when NTL's new price structure kicks in), both NTL and BT's line rental is £10.50 per month.

What you really want to do, is ring NTL and tell them you can get a better deal with BT and Talk Talk. Don't let on you use 1899 or anything. With a little humming and harring, they may offer you 12months line rental free ... thats a £126 saving with one phone call.

I "pretended" I was going to BT, I just said I was happy enough with NTL, but I was just looking to cut my existing bills. They offered me the 12months free line-rental. Couple this with the savings you are already making using 18866 and 1899, and you are laughing.

Apologies to everyone who has read previous threads where I have gone on about this. It just makes me so happy to think of the money I'm saving.

    hope this helps

The free ntl weekend calls should be ok for me because most of my calls are local.
Asking to leave ntl is worth a try will try that.
Thanks for the information on the call rates

I tried threatening to leave and they said OK, 30 days and your line will be cancelled. So be careful how far you push them!
