Guide discussion: Wedding Insurance

Hi,
We are due to be married at the end of November this year, 2020. Hopefully by the time everything will be back to normal, or we have much bigger problems in the world than a wedding. Having said this, I am just trying to be organised and ensure should we be unable to be married due to Coronavirus that we are covered but our insurance company have excluded 'Government regulated acts' which they are saying should the wedding be cancelled or postponed it comes under this clause. The insurance policy does not define this term within the document and they are seeking clarification from their underwriters as to what this means. The policy states that we are covered if it is cancelled or postponed due to 'unforeseen, unavoidable and beyond the control of the insured'. This is an unprecedented situation and I expect insurance companies to do whatever they can be not pay out for weddings cancelled due to this as there will be hundreds! Our wedding is booked for a Saturday as this is the day I want to be married on, our wedding venue will allow us to postpone our day to a Monday - Thursday free of charge. I would never want to be married mid-week. Or we would have to pay the venue cost again for a Friday/Saturday.
I don't know what to do and I can't help but stress about the situation. Who knows what will happen - I don't want a wedding where we can only have a few guests even though we've paid for 80!
Any advice would be much appreciated, Thank you. Katy

Wedding - 18/04/20 was supposed to be our Big Day. We have had several weeks to come to terms with Covid-19 ending our wedding. We spent the last few weeks rearranging with the venue, suppliers, registrar, honeymoon etc to reduce any claims we would have to make as fortunately we purchased 'Dreamsaver Wedding Insurance'Today I called to make a claim for suit hire, invites and save the dates. There response was disappointing.'You are not covered due to Covid-19 as your wedding was cancelled due to a government regulation or act'How can this be when I see many other wedding insurers are covering this horrible virus and rightly so.0

Same story for us. 28/03/20 was the big day so not covered by two days according to Dreamsaver. I just went for them based on the MSE best buy and claims of being voted best insurance provider. I'd be inclined to disagree. John Lewis has the same exclusion criteria in their policy, which from what I can gather is quite common, and their FAQ page says that they will still cover.0

My son and fiancee have made the decision to delay their wedding from Spring 2021 to 2022. The uncertainty of the numbers that would be allowed and possible change in the rules at short notice have brought them to this decision.
Most of their suppliers are being accommodating, but their insurer has said they will have to get underwriter agreement to change the date. Is this reasonable? They took the insurance out in good faith and changing the date obviously lengthens the time between now and the wedding date, so the risk of a supplier shutting down increases. On top of that, although suppliers have been accommodating over date change, they want payment schedules that are earlier in relation to the wedding date than before. The need for insurance is now greater than ever.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I’m getting married in Italy next Oct 21. Went to Italy a couple of years ago and met the wedding planners who showed us round various venues and we’ve chosen. They would like us to pay 30% deposit by bank transfer. There’s no wedding insurance at the moment. Is it normal to pay deposit for wedding abroad by bank transfer. Can we pay a bank account by credit card? It’s also a German bank account but wedding is in Italy and the planners are Italian and live in Italy. They have suggested PayPal as an alternative? Any advice greatly appreciated as really want to go ahead! Just a bit unsure 😐0
