Plumbing in Electric Shower?

I’ve been quoted £50 for connecting a copper pipe from existing cold water supply to the electric shower (total distance is 12’’)

Is this Fair?

Many Thanks

Obviously not alot of the £50 is parts, so must be labour. Could you not do it yourself. Turn the water off at stopcock and buy some fittings from a diy place. Otherwise the quote is not that bad, after watching the rouge trader programs.

£50 sounds fair to me, counting the travel/costs/ time for the plumber and around a fiver for materials.

    I would go for it.
  • I've fitted a shower myself with limited DIY ability using push / compression fittings, it may be quite fiddly but with a bit of trial an error you can get a good water tight seal, depends on how much free time or how little money you have.

Sounds fair to me, as you obviously can't DIY and save £49. Length is not everything!

all the decent tradies like me will apply to live in Austrailia along with a good percentage of doctors, nurses, hairdressers ,teachers and other sought after proffessions, leaving the rest of you with the poles, the estonians ,the albanians ,the romanians and the rest of the rabble that are flocking over and forcing down labour costs.
Eventually all jobs will be affected. And i mean all.
I and others like me are lucky our skills are in demand elsewhere others are not.And your wages will come down.
Enjoy the money you saved by going polish, well done .
I will switch the light off when i go.
  • I was thinking of plumbing in a mixer shower myself rather than getting someone in to do it. How difficult is it?

(BTW, by mixer shower I don't mean changing the taps, I mean digging out the wall and setting in a proper shower with temperature control.)

Tell us how moneysaving it is when you find out he hasn't got public liability insurance and he isn't willing to come back from Poland for the recall.
Just for the record I would probably have charged £34 for that job.
The "influx" of immigrant labour will continue while we have work and our wage rates are considerably higher. Change either of those factors and most will go back home. Also, most are here to work for a couple of years and take some capital back home to do things like buy a house in their home country. They are just exploiting the current economic conditions. How many people would leave the UK to work somewhere else in Europe if the minimum wage in the other country was the equivalent of £25 per hour?

You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

I'll have a look and see whether I can spot a specific article but UHM usually has some relevant information. http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/plumbing_centre.htm

Can't see a mixer shower one. I'll tell him to write one when I catch up with him. :D
