Can they request me to pay more?

Hi.

I signed up for an online course but they charged me in Euro's not pounds from my credit card. It actually turned out that i ended up paying less. The course was 750 pounds, sterling,

Now, several weeks later, the course proovider has contacted me asking me to pay the difference as the mistake has happened by the online payment system and was not a fault of their own.

Now look, i'm not trying to shirk here, but surely the fault and therefore problem is with the online payment system and not with me? I engaged honestly to pay the requested amount and accepted the payment system put to me at checkout.

Should i pay it?

Surely the payment handler should be picking this up? It is their fault?

V m thanks.

    You agreed to pay £750.

    You have not paid £750.

Yes they can ask you to pay it or refund you and remove you from the course.

    Yes

It may be their fault you've underpaid so far. It becomes your fault if you let that situation continue.

You need to pay it. Presumably you knew what the correct fees were when you signed up to the course?

Given that it was their fault then I think it is reasonable that they give you some time to pay off the difference.

One thing I'd add is that if the payment should have been in GBP and you've been charged a conversion fee for the euro purchase then the company should be covering this.

Their mistake should make no difference to your position in other words.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • Excellent all. Thanks for the advice. I will pay the difference and minus the exchange rate.
