help - was I zapped by camera

Hi, please help as I am so worried. I went to pick my son up from football last night fully aware of cameras and speed limit. To be fair speed cameras frighten me and so I am the driver who stays at 26mph in a 30mph zone and get loads of abuse for it. Did that last night with 2 cars behind me really annoyed. As I passed the camera it flashed twice at my drivers window and clearing the camera the 2 cars behind me raced off. I had to stop I was that sick. I was on the left side of the road and the camera was on the right and it did flash twice. No car at that point was overtaking me - I know I wasn't speeding but doubt even that now. Please help as this year has just got from bad to worse - iIeven thought of ringing the Police up but I know I have to wait 14 days - don't think I can.

If so, the camera is probably covering the other carriageway.

Each incident is reviewed by a person and they would be able to see from the markings on the road how far you had travelled.

The fines are not automatically sent out by computer.

If you were not speeding you will not have covered the distance between the markings in the period between the 2 photos and you will be fine.

I had a lengthy chat with a Safety Camera Partnership officer at a car show earlier in the year who explained the whole process.

  • Thank you but why did it flash twice. My husband said if it flashed through drivers side window then it won't have been aimed at me but I'm still worried. There are hundreds of cameras by us and I don't even want to drive this morning. Paranoid or what?
  • Hi sorry - there are no marking on the road - I don't think and the time between flashes is moments. I can't think if there was a car on the other side of the road - it just seems to be directed at me.
  • Calm down, panicing won't make any difference to whether you've got a ticket or not, you'll have to wait and see if you get anything through the post all you're doing at the moment is making yourself feel ill over something that may not happen.

I thought the cameras that flashed were only covering carriageways the way you drive. The rear facing cameras don't flash otherwise it would be lethal and use infrared imaging? Was someone on the opposite side of teh road not passing at the same time?

As Stephen says, it's probably not for your side of the road. If there was no traffic on the opposite carriageway, they have been known to trigger from vehicles coming in the other direction.

Forward facing cameras in this country do not flash as it could distract the driver, so I would be fairly confident you won't be receiving a NIP.

No, it's not always the case. If it's a Truvelo camera, it does flash on the face of driver!

Regarding the OP's query, there is no way to confirm unless you get the NIP thru post. If it does not arrive in 15 days time, then you are out of danger!

I was once flashed (in my face) while doing 20 mph. Obviously, I wasn't speeding and I never got any NIP for that :)

However, since you said it flashed thru your window, from opposite side of the road, most probably it was actually for a car on different lane.
