Non chewy food

Bit of an odd one but if anyone can help me you guys can

I've got a medical condition which means I can't chew food, it causes excrutiating pain. My meds aren't working right now and so it's getting worse. So I need food that can basically be spooned in and swallowed - fun, huh? :o

Right now I am living on porridge, it's filling and keeps me going. But long term this is obviously not an option. Any ideas? I'm conscious that nutritionally I am gonna be lacking really really soon (I'm swallowing a pile of vitamins as well). But even eating a risotto hurts.

Beyond soup, what can I have? I suppose soup is the most obvious option so some different types of soup would be good.

Ideas? Thanks guys xx

  • <hugs> that cannot be fun...

would something like a shepherds pie be soft enough?

or using similar ingredients, a soft potato or veg mash with a pureed 'gravy' (made from mince veg etc)?
  • Vegetable soup. Either lightly fry or steam any chopped veg until soft. Add stock and simmer for an hour. Sieve or blend, and serve with cream if you'd like it.

Semolina's nice, too, with a blob of jam, if you can't manage rice pudding.

    Hope you're better soon.

Just think baby food!! When my kids were babies, I cooked meals for the family: chicken, potatoes, carrots and a bit of gravy and pureed the lot. Pureed apple, pear, banana and smoothies with lovely fruit for your vitamins you can add lots of stuff to smoothies, like yoghurt or icecream you can sip them or drink with a straw,

It must be horrible for you and mashing everything together can't be that great, but combinations like potatoes and carrots and swede and onion together is nice, I make that for my family, or mashed sweet potato, corned beef hash is good.

Hope you get medicine that does work for you soon.

    Yeah,

I was gonna suggest what mumoftwo said... you can have anything blended, poor you.

I am trying to do a wee smilie hug, but it won't let me

  • That doesn't sound like fun at all.

    What about

yoghurt (bio yoghurt if you like it), good for your insides plus calcium.
a nice smoothie for breakfast, orange juice, banana, strawberry or frozen fruit - sorts out the zinc and the vitamins
chicken, beef or vegetable soup for lunch - could you manage some soup pasta in it, they are very small shapes you could cook them to destruction?
mashed potato with grated cheese or mix in some Philadelphia or Quark or Fromage Frais

There was a documentary on a while back about a girl who'd had a stomach stapling operation and she had to puree all her food, there's no reason to cut out all foods just because they're usually chewed, just blitz/mash everything!!
  • What about something like Complan (do they still make it?) that'd give a boost to your nutrients

How about souffle? As long as you don't have anything chewy in it, that could work. And maybe give you a bit of variety!

Immediately thought of mashed potato and smoothies. Lots of veg can be incorporated into smoothies too like carrot which just tastes sweet.
