Ebay item paid for but not collected

Why would me being in jail be any benefit to the OP?0

What if he then returns the favour and says he'll collect it this week?
When he turns up tell him someone came the day before to collect it quoting something about 'ebay' and you let them have it thinking itwas him.
However, you feel so guilty about it you will 'refund' him via pay pal.
Ensuring you don't use the friends and family option so he loses 3% pp fees
My guess is he won't even try to collect it.0 -
Maybe they couldn't collect because they were locked up? Or maybe illness?
Is there a potential scam here then? Pay for a collect only item and wait until the seller cannot refund through normal channels. Then get the seller to refund via another method the seller is happy with then do a chargeback?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Although a small figure, you should be mindful about any payment you make from the point of view of money laundering.
After all if the "buyer" has paid with funds from an unknown source but you make a "new" payment to refund them then that money is clean. If the buyer conducts this process on a large scale it could amount to all sorts of mischief.
Personally I would invite them to collect their purchased item as per the original contract of sale, but give them a fixed deadline of 2 weeks to do so - after which you will dispose of the item.
I cannot see them actually going to small claims court on the basis that they would have to pay a fee to raise a case that they seem reasonably likely to lose or at best recover their purchase figure but I would expect any sane magistrate to look at the facts and advise the buyer they had failed to collect their goods in a fair timeframe.0 -

do this and end the matter.
Yes the buyer should not have kept the OP waiting so long with no communication, but as soon as the decision wss made to sell it again the original payment should have been refunded.
You can't keep someones money and sell the item again to someone else!
phone paypal, do the refund through the official channel and move on, any thought of witholding fees etc is just asking for more trouble down the line.0 -

Hi, firstly I'm not expecting to keep anyone's money. I have stated I have no problems in refunding the money. My gripe is the way the buyer has took 10 months to answer a simple email with a threatening response. I went out my way on several occasions to contact the buyer. All the buyer has had to do is ask for a refund. The threatening and accusing manner they have finally done this in is not acceptable.
I was unaware paypal were able to do a refund after the said time frames so thanks to the people who have pointed this out.0 -

One thing that is unclear, did you actually sell the item to someone else? it says you relisted, did it sell and actually go?
Assuning yes then
I agree there was no need for the buyer to be threatening and accusing. And yes they should have responded to contact.
I just feel that when you decided you'd had enough waiting (and to be honest you waited a lot longer than I would have) then you should have been finding out how to refund the original payment when you sold to someone else. Not a further 6 months down the line when they finally get in touch.
what if they had never got in touch? at which point where you going to chase giving them their money back?
If you still have the item then it all changes.0 -

If you were not expecting to keep the money why didnt you refund it when you decided to relist it and sell it again?
If i were selling something and there was no contact after a few weeks i would have refunded the money.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
