  • right so after being on the phone with stepchange today got some bad news and i dont think a dmp plan is for me as stepchange wont let me enter one unless i include my gurrantor loan in my list of debts i am unhappy with this as in 14 months time as ive kept all my payments up to date and on time the lender george banco have agreed to remove my gurrantor of the loan and discharge them of all liability and obligations so im very lucky there then i would add it to a dmp but i cannot put someone else finance at risk which is sad that stepchange dont understand this

this is what people were trying to say earlier. If you had not told stepchange about this, but said that you smoked or had a pet (even if you don't) then you could have kept the money for the guarantor loan repayments and continued paying this yourself.

It's a bit of a twisting of the system but sometimes there are good reasons for doing it.

Well done, how did it go with them?
  • fantastic actually the dmp has over £17000 worth of debt and it will be 3 years 3 months untill im officially debt free !!! wahooo however they did say ill be nearly 30 b4 my credit file is uneffected by the dmp which is dissapointing for future plans and ideas but i digress as im happy that i only 39 payments to make and gonna countdown going to start a diary on here and do a full breakdown and calulation of all the debts even manged to work the numbers so my gurrantor loan is accounted for without telling them yipee :) sadly im told it will take between 4-6 weeks to start :(

The credit file being affected totally depends on whether your creditors default you. If they do default you then the record will only stay on your file for 6 years from the default date so way before you're 30 :)

Well done on getting it sorted though, it must be a relief.

I know it seems a long time to start but cancel the DD's to your creditors for May payments and let them know that you are entering a DMP with Payplan and you/they will be in touch - I wouldn't give them anymore money, save the payments you would make and put them in a savings account
  • can i do this actually or will i get into more trouble ?
