Rather than Chaps for large amounts you can consider using a cheque. Obviously the timescales are different but there won't be a fee.

I always do a £1 test transfer first on every account I send money too just to make sure it's got to the right place! Once done it's then simple to do Faster Payments which I like to do each month when transferring funds for the monthly cycle.
