Rip off building firm

A bit background i was out walking me dogs on monday and a i got collared by a sales guy for a kitchen company who also do double glazing etc etc. Our front doors on our ex council house were put in early 90's and are now drafty as hell one the locks knackered.

So anyway sales dude he knocked on the door as my 5 looney dogs were running around my kitchen, i agreed for a sales dude too come measure up and come back too get rid of him basically.

Now this is the fall off the chair minute he quoted us 5100 for 2 composite doors fully fitted or if we took it on finance 4500. Now when we said no he did the oh i have too ring me boss i at this point after listening too 20mins of crap asked him too leave. He dropped his price too 3500 still a rip off.

Can i name and shame on the forum here the name of the company??

Tim Healy does there adverts. We were gobsmacked my little bit inheritance off my gran who passed before easter i dont think will be 5000 lol

We have had subsequent quotes of 1900 for both doors
debts 16550
Mortgage 69500

Yes you can name the firm, your story is exactly the same as will have been experienced by hundreds of thousands of potential customers of replacement glazing/door firms.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

If they are related to you - why not have it out with them directly?

Otherwise, the "In my home" or housing forums would be the place for this.

And have a search for the company, there may already be standing info about dealing with them.

This is the Marriage, Relationships and Families board. So its fairly reasonable to assume a familial connection.

The poster probably came to that conclusion, because you have posted your dilemma on the 'marriage, relationships, and families' board.

Why do you think the OP is related to the company? I may be missing something, but I can't see anything in Huskyrunner's post that even suggests this.

Husky, if what you write is true then I would also tap-up this outfit to local trading standards and/or BBC Watchdog or Rogue Traders. Such tactics are cruel, manipulative and obscene. There are so many people who are not as gutsy and plain-dealing as you and are likely to be persuaded/bullied/intimidated into costly works that they neither want, need, nor can afford.

As long as you can prove that what you say is true - then, yes. Please do name and shame for the benefit of us all.

    Best wishes. x

Edit - re. board posting... Anyone can make an innocent mistake. Hey, even I'M not perfect! ;-)

I find the best way to get rid of any unwanted door-knockers is to say 'No thank you, I am not interested' - not to invite them back to do a quote.
  • I am too nice and we are looking around at quotes with other companies at the minute anyway. Plus as i said the guy was rabbiting away as my 5 lunatic huskies were running around killing each other in my kitchen.

We live and learn i made the mistake of thinking hay i have seen these guys on tv and heard radio adverts by them they cant be con artists.

    Never again

It's not a case of being 'too nice'.
I'm nice when I say 'No thank you'.

And you certainly shouldn't believe everything you hear and see on TV.
