You haven't completed 5years full service yet, youve only completed 4 years full service up to date, your 5th year will be complete April 3rd 2017.

Yes my employers work in the same way only mine go up on a sliding scale... 2 extra days after 2 full years service, then one extra day per year to a max of 5 after five years completed. Mine was similar to you in that our hol year was Jan-Jan and I started in the Feb so had to wait almost 3 years to get my first lot of extra days. But they have to have a cut off so it was fair enough.

If you have a company handbook it will probably give more detail in there, your contract won't be as comprehensive about the general things that apply to all employees.

    Eh? April 3 2011 to 2012 (1), 2013 (2) 2014 (3), 2015 (4), 2016 (5) ... looks like 5 completed years of service to me.

If the holiday calendar/business calendar starts April 1st though (and this is clear in all documentation) then I agree that it's only 4 business years of service.

Their 5th year has only just started as of 3rd April 16, it seems like the employer awards only on the completion of this 5th year and not the start date anniversary.

I've obviously confused myself and been a dimwit......I will leave the evidence of my stupidity intact for everyone to ridicule as I really do deserve it for being so dense...:o

Ha ha! Lovely to see someone being so honest! You're right, Poppie, it makes for a much nicer and more open forum if people are open about their mistakes.

(I've made just about every mistake it is possible to make, on the match betting board :o )
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

Wouldn't it be pertinent to get advice from the union first and find out their position on it, before raising a grievance?

I've had long service at two companies and they have awarded the extra days in the year of the anniversary. So for example if the anniversary landed during the current holiday year, then they would be awarded in that year, not having to wait until the following year.

I agree though that companies may have different policies. Perhaps a good idea to ask others who have recently had the anniversary to see when they were awarded them?
