I have two cats. They are 9 months old.
Right now we feed them half a pouch each in the morning, afternoon they get some biscuits and then at night they get another half a pouch. The cats were from the same household (the lady had two cats who gave birth the same week) one is 5 days older but was raised by the younger ones mother so they are really close and are very active, they play together a lot.
The two cats have completely different food requirements. One of them has started to go into heat a lot, shes a lot bigger in frame than the other one and ends up eating the others cats food. She is the older one.
The other cat is a lot smaller, she eats around half of what I give her. She's still a big cat compared to my parents cats when they were the same age.
I'm not sure how much food I should be giving them. The older one would happily eat more but I'm not sure what I should be offering.
Currently we use aldi cat pouches (every day essentials one, £1.79 for 12) and aldi cat biscuits (85p for 900g). Pouches last 6 days and biscuits last about 10 days.
We are on a budget so need to be cheap as possible but I want to also make sure I'm providing them with good food so any suggestions of better quality food which won't break the bank would be nice.

I used to use Lidl pouches for my cats, but have changed to the tins as it is much cheaper.

    12 100g pouches is 1200g for £1.79

    I get 6 (400g) tins for £2 (possibly £2.50) so that is 2400g for £2.50.

I also make sure I use different brands, as I don't want them getting fussy.

Like you, I have 2 cats - over a year old, I feed them half of tin in the morning and half a tin after work, and a handful of dry food at bedtime.

When they were younger, I give them 1/2 pouch each with a bit of dry cat food.

I also give them lactose free milk

  • I have a nearly 6 month old kitten and when we picked her up she was being fed asda kitten food, I slowly weaned her onto dry food as wanted something decent. I use this

She absolutely loves it, if I buy the two bag deal it will last around 100 days which is great.

She also gets some chicken, fish and occasional wet pouch though wet pouch rarely.

Its a good price for a decent food and I am happy with it, our Labrador also has their dog food so makes it easier when ordering if both from the same place :)

We had our girl spayed a couple of weeks ago, she is a lovely wee thing :)

Food aside, it is of utmost importance that you get both these cats spayed asap. If you are on a reduced income then you should qualify for some kind of discount, if not free neutering. Cat Protection have various schemes running in conjunction with RSPCA, in London it is the C4 scheme which is free but other areas have other 'deals'. You may need to call around a few rescues, or the Cats Protection, to find out what you may qualify for.
