Getting confused

We are in the process of buying our first house, our sellers are in no chain and we are FTB's and we are both just going through the searches stage. I have this morning received an email from the EA asking for an update on progress and if we have a date in mind for exchange and completion. I am presuming that the vendors have asked her to chase us up, but I am confused as surely they should be going to their own solicitor for updates on progress (I would like to think that their solicitor and our solicitor are communicating?).

Yes, solicitors (assuming you are both using them) should be progressing things.

But it can help if the buyer/seller discuss and agree their referred dates and gap (eg 8 days between Exchange and Completion or whatever). They can then instruct their respective solicitors to work towards that.

But it can equally just be the EA worrying about getting their commission before month-end, and wanting to chivvy everyone along......
