Did I do the right thing?

As expected I got my first Neg.
This was what he said "No acknowledgement you took payment. No item shipped. No offer of recompense."
And my reply:
"Ship date not passed but buyer insisting on compensation, so we cancelled order."
I've also reported him for unfair feedback but I won't hold my breath.
Still have no idea what he means about the payment. Every time I buy from Ebay I get a whole host of emails from Ebay and Paypal saying what I bought and when.
I'd much rather not sell on Ebay at all, we actually only use it as a means of advertising. Everything we make is to order and to the customers specification so Ebay sales are not really important (or very frequent) as most customers see it on Ebay and then come to our website to order.
I know the 10 day dispatch is an issue but that's just how long it takes if we're busy, not much I can do about that. What we make is very specialised and not available anywhere else in the world.
So where did he get the replacements from?0 -
Just as an aside, it is also worth remembering, in case these items have any real value, that you have no PayPal seller protection as your dispatch time is longer than allowed on PayPal for full protection.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Etsy is probably a more suitable marketplace for custom-made items which can't be ready immediately. Sadly, the days when eBay was a great place to buy and sell such items are long gone, and nowadays eBay encourages buyers to expect a fast turnaround, and on mobile devices on which an increasing proportion of transactions are nowadays conducted, item descriptions aren't as obviously displayed as you might expect (also, eBay keep screwing around with their settings so the description isn't always displayed by default even on a PC).
Since the buyer complained about lack of communication, if you do continue selling items which can't be ready for immediate dispatch on eBay, perhaps it might help in future to send a personal email confirming each order and the anticipated dispatch and delivery dates.0
