AMEX platinum everyday cash back as go-to CC?

I'm a student looking for my first "real" CC. I already have a student CC with Halifax, but looking for something long-term. MSE recommends the AMEX as it provides cash back on everything you buy with the card, is it worth the time?
I won't fully utilise the 5% cash back for the first three months because I won't spend £2k+ in that time, and long-term, I may only qualify for 0.5% cash back as I'll probably be spending less than £3500 annually with the card whilst a student.
Is it okay as an every day credit card that will give "some" return?

It's probably the best offer out there currently, I'm using one initially but won't make full use of the 5%.
You have to soend £3k in the year or you isn't get any cashback, which is soemthing to be careful of.
It's also a card that probably needs a good credit file, as a student do you have an income in terms of salary, and your short history may not be sufficient for them. There's also a minimum household income of £20k believe which you may or may not be able to achieve dependent on your circumstances.0 -

Thanks bigadaj. At first glance, I don't see my self spending £3k in the year, but if I literally use the Amex card for all my spending, it may soon tot up (provided I set up DD to pay it back monthly).
Well, the criteria mentions total household income, and living with parents, I surpass the threshold in household income. MSE says I have a 95% chance of getting it so I might give it a shot...

I always thought that by household income it means you and your partner.
My household income is over £20k, yet mine isn't and my partner doesn't live with me. But i would not expect to be accepted and i am sure my parents wouldn't want me writing there name down anywhere!#71 : Save £12k in 2016 : £3,644 / £6,0000 -

It doesn't ask for the names of anyone else.0 -
be aware that there are still a number of places that don't take Amex so you will need another cardI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

As there's a risk you may not meet the minimum spend to earn cashback on the Amex you might be better off with the Asda card, this pays 0.5% cashback on all spending with no hoops to jump through. Will be easier to get as well.0
