I wouldnt go as far as describing myself as "like the living dead". I do notice hair problems, puffy face, the odd bit of "brain fog" (whereas I'm used to being pleased at my mind being quite speedy etc). A bit of weight gain (bigger than I should be - but most people dont even notice). Energy could do with being a good deal better and I'm not happy at the high proportion of distinctly early nights I feel the need for - though its difficult to tell on that in some ways (ie because I'm used to deciding what I will do and then using my willpower to force myself to do a lot of it regardless of how I feel iyswim).

I don't give myself much leeway on letting myself off the hook on anything....LOL.

I think mine was pretty bad, I had the test done on the Tuesday afternoon, apparently the hospital rang the doctor when they saw the result and the surgery rang me and said I needed to go round straight away and see the doctor. I was expecting some pretty devastating news so when he told me what it was and that I needed to take tablets for the rest of my life but nothing else it was a relief. In some circumstances I suppose I might have been unhappy at the news but as it was it was OK. I had been feeling ill for months, maybe more than a year but my doctor kept telling me I was depressed. Well I suppose in a way I was but wouldn't anyone feel a bit down in the circumstances? It wasn't depression as he meant but a reaction to my physical condition. Because of that I think I went alot longer than I should have before I got the diagnosis.

At least you will know one way or the other tomorrow.

My hair fell out and went very thin as a result of serious illness. Fortunately by the time I noticed it I was starting to recover. Family and friends had been kind enough not to mention it and as I was coping with lifechanging disability the hair loss did not feel like my biggest concern but nonetheless it wasupsetting . My hairdresser was excellent in helping to make the best of what I had left and to manage my hair during the year it has taken to grow back. I used Aveda hair thickening products. shampoo, conditioner and serum. it definitly made my hair feel like it had more body.I think the shampoo was about £80 and the conditioner £50. not an instant solution but incremental. The serum/spray had the most instant effect.

Now it has grown back it is thicker than ever and looks good.

The charles worthington hair thickening shampoo was pretty good too and a lot less expensive.

Good luck. My hair looked totally mad as it grew back, I had an underlayer of new baby hair that acted as scaffolding so my remaining longer hair stuck out. My daughter said I looked like one of those plastic troll dolls who have neon coloured hair.

Well I was like the living dead in the months before I got diagnosed. My skin was very dry, my hair was thin and dry, my nails were breaking and I was putting on weight but not eating more than normal. The worst thing was the tiredness. I was walking up the hill where I live today coming back from the library with a bag of books and thought, "Ten years ago I would have been exhausted and now I am just marching up the hill with no problems." The difference is levothyroxine.

I can't remember the reason for not taking iodine except that I seem to remember him saying there were various reasons for hypothyroidism and for mine it wasn't a good idea. He said it because I do like some foods that are high in iodine and mentioned this and he said to be careful.

On googling it I can see articles saying if hypothyroidism is caused by an auto immune condition then idione can make it worse. I'm not sure if that is the case, I am always wary about believing everything I read on the internet, I was so rundown and exhausted when I got the diagnosis I don't think I was taking everything in. I haven't really worried about it since as I feel so well on my levothyroxine I just don't question it.

auto immune hypothyroidism(hashimotos disease with goitre in throat) is when the body attacks the thyroid therefore depleting the natural thyroxine as opposed to the other type where the body has lost most of its thyroxine...I have little shortform eyebrows and the goitre and dx with hashimotos disease but this can also change to hyperthyroidism so good monitoring of blood is important and if you feel unwell then a review of blood is essential...lucky in France the health service is 2nd to none and they over test compared to Uk which is why they detect health issues earlier....

I read an artical a few weeks ago about a horse shampoo that is flying off the shelves in that particular store. It was originally used for show horses I believe.

I've just had a quick google search and like most things has a variety of mixed reviews. Anyway the shampoo and conditioner is called mane and tail.

I hope the rest of your treatment goes well.

I suffered from this when taking Omeprazole heartburn treatment. It came back a bit after I stopped taking it but not completely. Cover up powder is very useful, as you can brush it onto your parting to make the hair look thicker.

I have grey roots and use this powder to cover them up and also make my hair look thicker along the parting. The best range of hair powders is said to be the one promoted by Joan Rivers but that only seems to be available in the USA. There is a "Fill In " hair powder available on Amazon here which I have found to be quite effective. It comes in different shades.

Boots are currently promoting minoxidil (Regaine). They have a big display stand in my local branch.

I lost a lot of my hair 2 years ago (have pics) due to stress, hormones and childbirth. It was absolutely vile I couldn't stand to look at it anymore, anyhow someone told me abit this shampoo called FAST it was £20 in boots but well worth it I went from washing my hair every day to washing twice a week with this and my hair has gone lovely and thick and great condition. Did think £20 was a bit of a con but it does seem to work, also I try not to use heat (hairdryer) it's horrible having out of control hair for a bit but worth it when it starts to get In better condition, my hair has gone from an ugly short style to nice shoulder length.

I didn't know the back story to Mane and Tail but my daughter has been buying this from Amazon £8 odd for both and thinks it brilliant though she doesn't have thinning hair.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

That's interesting as I've been on Omeprazole for a few years now and my hair is not good, but I never knew there was any connection.
