  • My son needs to wear a suit for college from this September. I don't want him to be whiffy, so I have bought him two suits plus extra trousers so far. I'm planning to buy an extra suit and another pair of trousers as well.

Buying in the sales at a decent gent's outfitters means that I have paid £49 for one suit, £52 for the second, and £18 for a pair of trousers. They are decent quality, smart, and classic design. One suit for £180 is expensive in comparison.

OP, try looking at independent shops, or small chains. I bought from Greenwoods.

And I agree that having just one pair of trousers is unhygienic. I wouldn't wear one pair for five days running without washing, and I don't expect my son to. That would be disgusting.

I never understand how men stay 'fresh' using just one pair of trousers.

Surely, unless it's a suit that is only worn occasionally, you'd always want to buy at least two pairs of trousers wouldn't you?

The suit would be worn for special occasions. I have three or four pairs of trousers as it stands that I wear for work.

That poses an interesting question. How many shirts; trousers and ties do you have (for work). I have six shirts (1.2 for each working day of the week) and four pairs of trousers and about six ties. This excludes the suit referenced in this post.

Around a dozen pairs of smart jeans, 7 or so nice tops, 4 pairs black trousers, 2 jackets, 2 suits.

I only wear the black trousers and jackets when at a public facing event or a committee, and I only wear a suit when meeting the Minister (or deputy Minister).

    (is female)
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

NEXT is a fashion chain, not a gentleman's tailor! If you have a bit of cash and want something dramatically longer lasting, pick a Saville Row tailor and get something made to measure. The quality will be amazing and the cut will be classic and last you decades ;-)

I bought a suit recently, which is dry clean only. I have three pairs of trousers. I plan to buy another pair.

They are dry clean only. Can anyone recommend a DIY dry clean process? I do not have a tumble dryer at the moment, however I could buy one. I have read about a few products you can buy, however they do not have particularly good reviews. Can anyone recommend a product or process?
