Energy Switch (Independent Gas Transporter)

I'm in the process of moving Gas and Electric from Co-Operative Energy to OVO. The process is complicated as my gas supply is through a Independent Gas Transporter network.

The transfer date is the 18th February and the electric has been transferred. I'm getting conflicting advice from OVO and the Co-Op, OVO tell me that my gas supply is with them from the transfer date. However I'v received the following from the Co-Op via email.
After taking a closer look into your account, I have seen that your electricity supply with us has stopped on 17th February 2016. However, your gas is still on supply with us. The reason is that you have Independent Gas Transporter (IPGT), meaning your gas is supplied by an independent company as opposed to the National Grid and the transfer of providers takes approximately six months for persons with IGT meters.

Therefore, we cannot generate your final bill until we will have the gas final reading. As soon as your gas final reading will be added on the national data base we will generate your final bill and process a refund of any remaining credit on the account if it will be the case.

I've highlighted the two items of concern for me:

The Co-Op seems to be saying that they are still supplying and charging me for gas and that it's likely that this will go on for 6 months., is this correct?

Contact your new supplier, Ovo, for the latest position and their intended switching date for gas if they have not done so.

It's for the new supplier to manage the entitre process.

(Edit: In a recent switch, well last year actually, I arranged for someone with an IGT, it took less than 4 weeks from application to actual switch, and that was because the customer opted for a later date than the earliest possible one offered by the supplier, else I'm sure it could have been even quicker)

I have and they have indicated as in my original post

My issue was the conflicting advice from the two parties involved.

So you've provided a meter reading at the switching date?

And Ovo have started billing you from that date and meter reading?

In which case do not pay the old supplier after the date and associated meter reading you have started with the new supplier. :)

Any issues, such as the old supplier billing you for the same period as the new supplier, then raise them with the new supplier.

Yes, meter readings were provided to OVO. I'm paying OVO and cancelled the Co-Op direct debit already.

I'll just have to wait and see if the Co-Op try to charge me twice for the gas.

I switched from Ovo to Zog in 3 weeks from application to switch. Ovo said that this was impossible and they even e-mailed me a week later to say that my new supplier would notify me of the transfer date which could take up to 12 weeks. IGT transfers can take longer than non-IGT switches as it involves 3 parties and some manual processes. If your supplier is playing hard ball then ask Ovo to contact them.
