Same name and date of birth

Two seperate financial institutions have
contacted me in error in relation to another persons debt.
I have the same name and date of birth as
someone who is apparently no longer contactable
at their Liverpool address. How can I stop this and ensure my
credit rating is unaffected?

    Hi there,

Have you checked your credit file so far, is there anything on there that you do not recognise? If so, then report the matter to Action Fraud and then write to the creditor and explain there has been a case of mistaken identity and ask them to launch a fraud investigation. If they still believe you are the liable person then escalate the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

If you are just receiving post then you could write to the creditor and explain that the letters are becoming harassing and you would like them to stop. Complain under the FCA conduct guidelines. Explain the unique situation and that you would like to know what other information you may need to provide to demonstrate you are 2 different people. It is quite unusual for someone to have the same name - middle name too? - and date of birth but it would be incredibly improbable for the third piece of information to match by coincidence. If it does then it would look more intentional and to be an issue of fraud rather than an admin error. Good luck,

    Laura
