Job Offer Rescinded JPMorgan due to credit - I think

Hi,
Ive spent the last 3 months+ interviewing and jumping through hoops for a good job with JPMorgan. It all went swimmingly and they offered me a job. Its not an FCA regulated role, its in IT.
I declared a CCJ from years ago and they kept telling me "its ok, no one is perfect." Then there was delay after delay until finally two Friday afternoons ago a woman phoned me and said "sorry but the security team have not authorized you for clearance due to the CCJ". She said the HR and onboarding people will be in touch and thats all she knew.
So here I am two weeks later and I have had nothing in writing informing me of this, no contact at all since that phone call, and none of my emails or phone calls answered or returned. As gutted as I am, if thats their decision, so be it. But to just dump me and not even bother to rescind the offer in writing seems a little excessive. What makes it worse is every recruiter under the sun is contacting me asking me to apply for the job which is back on the job boards. As any ex boyfriend I am constantly questioning now, "did I do something wrong?" "did they find something I didnt know about?" I feel like the jilted ex lover ha ha. Since theyve not rescinded the offer officially maybe I should just turn up to work lol.
Anyway, any advice? cant say I want to waste any more time on them but it would be nice for the respect of a decent explanation or conversation or even something in writing.

You've had the explanation - you have nothing to gain by hanging on getting it confirmed in writing. It sounds rude on the employers part but just get on with your life.Thinking critically since 1996....0

Ask them in writing for an explanation.
You'll probably get a sorry letter with no real information, but it's all you can try.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Yeah, fair enough, I am moving on. Just cant help thinking maybe it was a mistake, maybe something that could have been explained.
Its only been two weeks, Im going through the grieving process. Im jumping straight back on the job sites and dating other employers already.
But I just need to know.... For the love of God.... WHYYYYY?0 -
Because you didn't pay a court order on time with in the last 6 years?0

Yes, thats perfectly possible, even likely, actually most likely. But I told them this months ago when I started the onboarding process. They had all the information at the beginning. Why waste their time and mine if that was a show stopper back then.
If they are willing to go back to square one and start recruiting all over again it must have been serious.0 -

Actually it's probably a case of "computer says no" - don't take it personally just move on.
After 6 years the CCJ wont show and you'll be able to reapply.0 -
It may be that they have had updated advice or training since then. I 'attend' a compliance webinar for my industry about once a month. I know that the briefing we had 6 weeks ago included discussion about credit checks for staff in sensitive positions.
It may be that the company you'e aplied for have had a simialr briefing, or that they have just dealt with an issue involving an employee stealing due to debt and have tightened up their processes.
You can ask them whether they can give any further feedback and in particualr, whether they would reconsider you in future and if so, how long after the CCJ.
It sounds as if their internal processes have glitched andthat's why you have not had written confirmation. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
Pretty normal that they won't commit to anything in writing - I remember when an Insurance company revoked job offer day before I was due to start, few years ago now they were not willing to do this, the only piece of mind I got was writing a professional kept letter how I saw events which did got acknowledged. At the time I needed it as was receiving jsa so only thing that made me bothered (Agent told me informally when I could re-approach etc, of course all done verbally)0

Do employers carry credit checks ?
Or is it only the financial sector ?0
