  • Why are the likes of trom and Moby so quick to bite the hand that feeds them?

They admit their complete self interest and acknowledge their complete dependence on the hardworking wealth generation of the private sector to fund their life style choices so why are they so bitter towards the industrious go getters that enable it all for them.

Its a very strange stance. I guess a bit like spoilt teenagers who grow into adults and never leave home. They don't have a clue where the money comes from as long as it keeps coming (to them) they are fine.

My wife and I are both public sector workers.... thanks for the money, keeping it coming. :)

TBH I don't think anyone begrudges many state workers the money they get, especially doing jobs like being a gaoler that most people just wouldn't do.

When they then start going on about the morality of others avoiding tax while avoiding tax themselves it gets people goat. It gets mine anyway. It's not that they are spending tax money it's that they are hypocrites.

Mr Cameron didn't even do anything wrong except being born to rich parents and joining the Tory party.

I am struggling to work out this politics of envy.

We need rich people in this country, they tend to be the people that own and run companies that employ a lot of people.

Of course Labour would be happiest living in a country where everything is controlled by the state, housing is provided and is identical to everyone else's, everyone earns the same whatever work they do and everyone is equal except those that run the country.

Of course that then removes aspiration and the country would rapidly go down, but then we would have to be subsumed by Europe, which would again make Labour very happy.

To have a country prosper you need people that want to prosper, that means there has to be a reasonable reward for working very hard in some very challenging roles.

In short, you have either a country where everyone is equal or miserable, or you have a country where there is a small percentage of people who are devoting their lives to running the country and/or businesses that employ thousands of people.

The sheer fact that the politics of envy works proves that everyone wants to be better than they are.

Of course you then get idiots like Bob Crow. He earned a fortune but was proud of the fact he lived in a council house, thus depriving someone who needed it of the chance to live in one.

why do we want to create a job opportunity for a younger worker?

don't you know the UK is facing a huge worker shortage which is one of the main reasons we must stay in the EU and receive unlimited EU migrants. All the economically literate people on the board know this is true because of the upward pressure on wages (supply and demand determines the price etc) so everybody except Moby and Tom are getting huge pay increases.

Wage restraint in the public sector is coming at a cost though. Risable staff retention rates and cuts are beginning to bite and effect service. I watched the national and local news the other evening and both were dominated by NHS stories based around the lack of staff. When you seek to reduce the deficit predominantly through cuts in public services it comes at a cost. The economically literate on these boards who currently enjoy good health may not see it, but others do.

Far too simplistic imo. It's not a 'politics of envy' ......that's just you re-framing the argument to fit your bias! What's wrong with Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany. They are more equal and civilised countries from my experience. A mixed economy with properly invested public services is best. The tories have now been stopped in their tracks from their slash and burn, austerity for the poor and protect the rich approach. David Cameron is a fraud because he did not want you to know that he was rich and had shell investments. ......while apparently being at the forefront of dismantling them now:rotfl: I don't know why because apparently they are all sound and above board and available to everyone! It's amazing the lengths contributors go to to defend his nefarious activities:rotfl:

We have loads of sessional workers in various roles to fill the gaps in service provision due to the cuts. They get paid more generous rates by the agencies who recruit them.....who in turn charge the govmt/taxpayer...so methinks how are we actually benefitting overall from cutting......but I'm just a simple economically illiterate guy....there's obviously something I've missed;)

I'd like to say that I'm surprised that you want German-style terms for public sector workers while denying those in other jobs the minimum wage like Germany but given your massive hypocrisy revealed in your tax avoidance I can't say that I am.

Am I surprised that you're revealing yourself to be hypocritical about more things? No.

The thing that I like about many socialists is that while I think they're misguided they are at least coming from a good place. For you it's all about you. You hate Mr Cameron for not giving you a pay rise, you call people out for evading tax while evading taxes yourself.

Just remember that while people are out sleeping rough you have to look in the mirror each morning and someone that has added to their problems is staring back.
