Credit Card Rejection Bafflement

in Credit cards
So, somewhat embarrassingly, I have been rejected from Aqua Reward, supposedly the most inclusive credit card on the market. And I don't understand why. I wanted the card as a means of building my credit rating, and would never be using it because I actually needed the money.
I have a credit rating of 3.5 (not brilliant but surely not terrible?)
I have never had any credit cards, loans other than a standard student loan - so lack a credit history.
I am a postgraduate student and have an annual income of £10,000 from scholarships and part time/ occasional work.
I am on the electoral role at my address.
Should I try reapplying? Or should I leave it well alone for another 6 months when I will be in full time work?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Try Vanquis. Then leave it for a while if rejected.
Ignore any credit score from anyone who doesn't lend money.0 -
Try looking at your bank where your salary is being paid into. They should be able to give you an indication without having to credit score you, and get a free Noddle report to see if there are any nasties of which you have no knowledge.0
