Recommendation for reasonable hotel in Amsterdam

hi everyone

We are planning to meet up with family who are doing a river cruise and end up in Amsterdam in October. We want to join them for a few days after they finish, and looking for a decent cheapish accommodation reasonably central.

We plan to drive, as live near Dover and can get ferry/ tunnel over.

There will be two couples and one single, all adults, don't mind hotel, B and B or self catering. Have had quick look, but wondered if anyone had previously used a good place.

Many thanks
Carolbee

If you need parking, look at somewhere like the Campanile but you'll need to travel into the city
it depends on your budget really
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

The public transport system is second to none.

Buy Strippenkart from a Tabak, this is a strip of tickcets which the driver stamps.
It costs you less than half o the fare if you do it this way rather than pay the driver, and if yoiu do pay cash, remember, no change is given.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I'm staying at the Motel One on my forthcoming trip to Amsterdam, I don't know if it has parking (I'm flying to Schipol) but it's out of the city centre so it may have.

The Strippenkaart was superseded about eight years ago by the OV-chipkaart, similar to the London Oystercard. It costs €7.50 for the card itself, so for a few days' stay a day ticket may be more economical, or the City Card which combines public transport with entry to various attractions:

Amsterdam city centre parking is very restricted and expensive; economy accomodation in town will provide no parking facilities.
    Evolution, not revolution

Thanks for that eDicky, I wasnt aware.
We used to go for a stay of 3 or 4 days up to about 7 or 8 years ago.
Lately we have been going on a mini cruise so never used the transport.

We are going soon or a few days though so Im glad you posted.
