Gate width

I am looking for a replacement wooden gate for the side of my house.
I'd like to draw on the experience of people on this board to check the width requirements.
The gap between my brick wall and next doors is 960mm.
Many gates available seem to be around 900mm wide such as this one (link below)

I will probably have to have to fix some wood to each side to attach the hinges to and also the latch on the other side but does anyone know if this 900mm wide gate is suitable for the 960mm gap?
Thanks

First of all check with your neighbour about fixing to their wall as you have no right to do so. You may need to install a freestanding gatepost.
There is nothing more annoying than the sound and vibration of a closing gate echoing through your wall because one post is attached to it0 -
60mm isn't a sufficient gap to have timber on either side of the opening. It only allows you 30mm either side which certainly isn't big enough for hinges. Ideally you need 50mm either side. So the gate needs to be 860mm wide.
You will get one if you go to your local timber merchants or fencing supplier who will make one to your exact size.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Find a local handyman to make you one to size.Mortgage Jan 13 99260.00 87253 April 2017

Fix the wall uprights, measure the gap between them then make your own gate to fit, which is what I did.:)0

I don't know where you are, but ... what I did was....
Go to http://www.halessawmills.co.uk with my measurements and a sketch of what I wanted.

Get a friend (with better DIY skills than me) to fit it.

Thanks - neighbour has given permission. Its his garage anyway so not a huge issue for the gate noise (even then, we don;t use it very often)
Cheers for all the replies.0 -
