Cruisecritic.co.uk is the best resource for this sort of thing0

Enjoyed P&Os Oceana best of the two Med cruises I've done.
But I'm no expert.0 -
If you have kids, Disney Cruise Line are epic. Food not fab in my honest opinion, I think we have better standards than our US friends (?) however the experience outweighs it all. Be prepared for big bucks though0

I would avoid P&O as you will get better deals on RCL, Celebrity and Princess especially since the American are reluctant to visit Europe with the increased terrorism. Great deals are available at the moment.0

I second Disney with or without kids tbh. I've been on 2 cruises with a 3rd this summer and the adult only areas are very good and much quieter compared to the kids pool which is hectic. They are a tad more expensive but imo its worth it. But if you do don't bother with the port adventures unless something really takes your fancy. We did Lisbon Gibraltar and Majorca without booking any of the port adventures and intend to do the same with Nice and Pisa this year:staradmin

We have done most of the major cruiselines and a few less so. It depends very much on what you want and who is going with you. We have never had a "bad" cruise but we have had those we have enjoyed more than others.
For us, RCL wins out from a service aspect every time. NCL has good entertainment and you don't have to dress for dinner, but the ships felt more crowded and a bit Butlinesque! Celebrity is a bit more "upmarket" and has nice speciality restaurants, but can feel a little staid. P&O is very british and tipping is done "our" way rather than the US way. MSC is very continental, but the food is good. Disney is great but has a less adult atmosphere and it is expensive.
That said, others on the same cruises as us may well tell you the exact opposite of what is above. It is a very subjective subject!
We choose the itinerary first, then look at who is doing it, and then how much they want. If it is from Europe and we can source our own flight cheaply we usually book woth a US travel agent as their deals are often cheaper. The only thing to be aware of is the freebies differ from US and UK so sometimes a freebue here will ean that although the base price is much cheaper in the US when for exampe a full drinks package is factored in the UK deal looks more attractive.

I would disagree about Royal caribbean being cheaper than P&o. Sailing from the UK P &O has been cheaper consistently at all the cruises I have looked at in the past 2 years
I have done lots of Royal caribbean, 1 P&O and doing cunard next week.
Food on P&O is better than Royal but royal big ships have more to do and more exciting for children

Princess for us. Food excellent, far better than P&O.
Always check Topcashback if booking direct with Princess....I earned cashback of £63 with my recent booking. P&O also give cashback.0
