0800 numbers not showing on bill

I am with BT. I needed to prove I called the insurance company on a certain date as they say I did not call them. The number was an 0800 number.

After several hours of arguing about why the number does not appear on my bill, the response was

"Calls to Freephone numbers are never listed on your BT bill due to a European directive, this is because if for example someone calls Childline or other sensitive freephone numbers they won’t show up on the bill to protect the caller."

This has made my life so much more difficult. I was wondering why they cannot just mark certain numbers as sensitive as oppose to just carte blanch removing them all.

Does any one know if there is anyway I can get BT to cough up my full itemised list. ?

Thank you very much EU... Brexit just got another vote !

For many people if these numbers did show up it would make their situation worse.

Not sure why putting sensitive against a number would protect a caller?

Doesn't your own phone have a call log?

I don't imagine being in the EU or not would make any difference anyway. I can't see this changing as it's important that people in vulnerable positions feel confident in the privacy of calling these kind of helplines. Their need for privacy is greater than the need to log calls to 0800 numbers in my opinion.

You could always submit a SAR to BT, but then if they don't log the calls anyway, you may just end up being £10 down. I'm also not sure whether actual phone calls would be listed, as even if the phone line is in your name it's possible the calls were not made by you so wouldn't be disclosed.
