Paint / seal concrete floor (inside house)?

We just bought a house and, after ripping out all carpets and underlay, found out that it is quite grimy. Of course we cleaned the concrete floor as good as we could, but were wondering whether there is any (thick) paint we could put on top of this, just to kind of sealing it off against the grime which might still be in the concrete. Since this will be our living room, it must be suitable for indoors use (i.e. non-toxic).

I know, it may be a bit psychological, but it actually would feel better :-)

Do you have any ideas what we could use? The floor will then be covered by a carpet underlay and carpet.

Best wishes,
Andre

Give it a coat of watered down pva. This will seal it quite adequately.

you can buy floor paint [think I had Ronseal paint which came with a pad and tray with the paint] but it tends to flake off when you put anything heavy on it or if it gets wet and then walked on [did it in my flat because I fancied that rather than carpet, big mistake :)]

Better than PVA (a bit more expensive though) would be a watered down SBR mix as it wont reactivate if it gets wet.
