Paying a card online

Hello, I've always had a credit card from my own bank which is easy to pay off online from my current account . If I apply for a 0% card from a different bank(Barclays) how would I pay it off each month online?

Just set-up a transfer on your current account using Barclaycard's sort code, account number and your card's 16-digit number as reference.

As Faster Payment it will arrive in minutes on your Barclaycard account (although the first payment might take a bit longer.)

It's quite straightforward. There are two main methods:-

1.Register a debitcard with the Barclaycard website. When you go to make a payment it offers you that card, you enter the payment amount and the security code from the back of your card and the payment goes through in about two days.

    2. A faster payment from your own online bank account. Barclaycard give you a sort code and account number. Some online bank accounts say this is a payment to Barclaycard is that right. You enter the card number as a reference, say how much you want to transfer and off it goes. My experience has been that it arrives very quickly and can be seen in your Barclaycard account same day.

My preference is option 2. Once registered as a payee Barclaycard is saved in your online banking, meaning you can be sure it is going to the right account. If in any doubt try a small payment - I usually put £5 others say £1 first and make sure it arrives before committing a large payment.
  • Ok thanks. :)

Why did nobody mention the DD?

This is the simplest and the most reliable option, especially for a 0% card. Set it for a minimum payment for the duration of 0%.

Presumably because the OP asked specifically about paying online, as she does at present. It may be that she wishes to vary the amount she pays each month (though of course you can still make extra payments even with a DD if you understand any interaction between them).

They are simple when they work, but personally I don't like using DDs. Whether or not the OP pays by DD, it is probably worth paying at least £1 more than the minimum each month to avoid a "minimum payment" marker which could be negative.

I have a 0% deal running on Barclaycard. If I pay FP from my (Nationwide) current account, the payment is credited same day. Given that sometimes I need a card reader to send a payment and I'm usually logged into Barclaycard anyway, I often just pay by debit card (they store the details). You hit the button and you can click on "minimum payment", "full payment" or any other amount. They ask for the 3 digit CVV as an additional security check.

With debit card, sometimes it goes through the same day, sometimes it doesn't. So I don't use this method unless I've got at least a couple of days in hand. You get a screen with a reference number to acknowledge payment - I used to save this out, but I don't bother anymore.

I took it from the question that OP was asking about a manual payment. I have minimum payment DDs setup on my Barclaycard as a back-up but pay it in full manually. No 0% deals in use I only use it for cashback.

DD's set up for minimum payments, especially when on a 0% purchase
    or BT deal !
You can always pay extra but why would you on a deal.

Later I would change the DD to full payment but by then I would have got a NEW card.

To pay off any balances, I would have used the info from the above posts.
Never paid any more than the minimum on any of my cards and still get good
    return deals.

I've recently closed my Barclaycard Initial credit card (limit was low and I'm trying to reduce my exposure risk to credit as I'm soon to be changing jobs and don't want to make a mess of my finances by relying on the plastic too much).

I digress. I set up Faster Payments from my Lloyds bank account and like the previous posts mentioned above the payment was credited to my account pretty much straight away (Available to Spend).

It was typically the next working day when the payment was showing up in Online Servicing.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
